I've reread this several times hoping to find the joke. Is it that it's laughable that a pop star is going to parlay her sexy persona into a movie career? No, really, is that it? "Reading scripts" is the standard phrase for those who are looking to do so, as you well know.
I don't listen to Christina Aguilera or care about her at all, but it's not like this would be the first time: Julie Andrews, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Jennifer Hudson... that's just off the top of my head.
I get that we're supposed to think she's reaching way out of her league, but then, so was George W. Bush. Stranger things have happened.
To quote the sign guy on Flight of the Conchords, you're overthinking.
I just thought it was funny to intentionally misunderstand the headline. Like the news is about her summer reading material rather than her career plans.
Not very funny or anything. Just enough to warrant posting the accompanying photo. Come to think of it, the AP probably had a similar idea.

There's just something about that woman, I can't quite put my finger on it... her allure, so hard to define. Oh no, wait, I see it. It's boobies.

I guess I get it. At the very least, I do approve of the photo.
