Unlike David Dreier, who moves in with him and tells God he's his chief of staff (but not in the dirty way)

"I've never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry. And I'm gonna be blunt and plain; if one ever looks at me like that, I'm gonna kill him and tell God he died." -- Jimmy Swaggart

thing is... I don't even get it. What's the joke? "kill and tell God he died."? Jimmy explained it away as the joke is he's trying to lie to God about it. So that's it, that it's so worth killing this person he's willing to lie to god about it? (and thereby damn himself?) Seems like a strange joke for a supposedly religious guy to be making. Guess that's just the South.

To be fair to JS, "I'm gonna kill him and tell God he died" is an old joke among religious southerners, the gag being that you can't lie to God (funny!).

It's the context that Swag puts it in here that renders it gruesome.
